Sylvia Jenkins Teachers WorkshopMTAC Marin Branch is pleased to sponsor Sylvia Jenkins in the workshop Is There Life After Op 47 No2: What and How? Through lecture, demonstrations and ample time for lively discussion, Ms. Jenkins will share her tried and true methods for advancing students through the fascinating maze of mid-intermediate to advanced level piano repertoire. This is your chance to ‘pick Sylvia’s brain’ and ask those many questions about Sylvia’s repertoire choices to progress a student from mid-intermediate to more advanced piano literature. Scholar Benefit ConcertWe remind you the annual Scholarship Benefit Concert is scheduled for Sunday 5 What: Scholarship Benefit Recital Last year we had a fantastic array of professional musicians who performed. However, audience attendance was embarrassingly low, especially attendance by MTAC Branch members. Now more than ever our branch needs your support. As a result, in the next week you will receive in the mail a letter with 2 tickets to this concert. We would like you to purchase or sell these tickets. And please attend the concert! Certificate of MeritIt’s time again for Certificate of Merit registration. Our state organization is moving in the direction of conducting as much business as possible online, and so this year our branch is sending our fall CM Packet via email. To receive a packet please contact our CM Chair, Helen Konowitz at helenkonow@aol.com (or call 456-2132). The new branch fee is $18/registered student in addition to the State fees. You must register your students on the MTAC State website www.mtac.org by November 15th closing date. Students not registered by that date will not be admitted to CM, no exceptions! Our CM date is Saturday, march 31, 2007 at the College of Marin Music Department.

Deadline for student applications is one week before the recital date. Late applicants are accepted only at the discretion of the recital chair. The student entry fee is $5. Composers Today Program Chair NeededSadly we say goodbye to George Tingley our Composers Today Chair.George had to resign as well as leave MTAC altogether since he needed more time to compose and record his many new compositions. We wish to thank George for many wonderful years as our branch Composers Today Chairperson. Currently we are looking for a new Composers Today Chairperson. This is an exciting position. The Chair acts as a liaison between the State Composers Today Program and the branch. The Composers Today Program is not just for children. Awards on the State level are extended to adults as well. Margaret Bean Davis Memorial Music CompetitionThe Margaret Bean Davis Memorial Music Competition will be held Sunday, March 11 2007 at JB Piano, and the Winners’ Recital on Sunday, March 25 2007 at the Mill Valley Methodist Church (UMC). Applications and checks must be received or postmarked by Friday, February 9, 2007. The competition rules and entry forms are available to download from our website. If you prefer, you can snail mail a request—specify either piano, instrumental, or vocal—with an enclosed self-addressed stamped envelope to: Carol LaRusso, 14 San Benito Way, Novato, Ca 94945.
MTAC Marin Branch NewsOur member John Boyajy has two performances coming up. He will be accompanying Roberta Becker, general manager of Golden Gate Opera Company. The dates are MTAC Marin member Virgina (Gini) Wilson will perform with the fabulous Gini Wilson Quartet aboard The Sausalito Empress. The Yacht Empress (2003) measures a bold 90 feet, boasts a rubbed wood interior, a dance floor and accommodates up to 149 guests on three levels. Mr. Iturrioz would like our branch host a showing of the DVD, and event at which Mr Iturrioz would be happy to make himself available for Q&A. The Concert Grand Classical Piano Series 2006-2007 is proud to present Garrick Ohlsson, piano Sunday October 8th at 3:00 PM at Santa Rosa Junior College Campus. Mr. Ohlsson will perform an exciting program of new and old masterpieces, beginning with Beethoven’s Sonata in C Op 10/1, Liszt’s transcendent B Minor Sonata, Lowell Liebermann’s 8th Nocturne and Justin Dello Joio’s two Concert Studies. The first concert features to wonderful Russian virtuoso Halida Dinova will perform piano works by Richard Wagner, Liszt and Chopin.
