MONTHLY RECITAL & BRANCH HONORS RECITAL
CHAIRS NEEDED

We still need a few volunteers to donate about three hours of their time to chair one of our Monthly Student Recitals.  Also, we need someone who participates in Certificate of Merit to chair the Branch Honors Recital from 12 Noon to 5 PM on March 30th. (Branch Honors Recital Chair does NOT have to create the program, only be there to emcee the day of the performance.)  If you'd like to volunteer, contact Vice-President Paul Agricola at 383-2027 or pagricola@hotmail.com

CERTIFICATE OF MERIT

ATTENTION:  All teachers who have students in CM.

The absolute deadline to register students is November 15th.  Payment MUST be postmarked no later than November 16th and mailed to CM Chair Helen Konowitz.  No exceptions.

Additionally, at the request of CM Information chair, Amy Martin, all CM teachers are asked to log onto the state website and READ the past two Certificate of Merit newsletters.

The URL is http://www.mtac.org/programs/CMNews/index.shtml

There is important information contained therein about the new syllabus, including a very informative Q&A section that covers many of the questions that have arisen about the new syllabus.

If you have ANY other questions or need help with registration, passwords, etc., contact our own CM chair, Helen Konowitz by email at helenkonow@aol.com

COMPOSERS TODAY & IMPROVISATION WORKSHOP

We all have students who just can’t seem to play the scales or a piece without somehow changing them.  Some of us even are fortunate enough to teach students who make up their own music. Next April, the Marin Branch will sponsor a Composers Today & Improvisation Recital (date & location TBA).  This is strictly limited to those students who have written their own pieces or who improvise.  The pieces can be works in progress, finished compositions, nifty take-offs on a pop tune, etc.  Original compositions do not need to be written down for this recital.  We encourage ensembles as well, although groups with large electronic set-ups might have some issues.  So here’s a chance for that bright, gifted student composer or improviser – of any age or level - to shine.

In addition to our own local efforts, the state MTAC offers the Composers Today program and the Improvisation program.

If you are interested in either of these state programs, contact their respective chairs for more information about applications, deadlines, etc.
