PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
President: Elenor Barcsak
Tel. 415383-0125
Email: zenezest@aol.com
The inauguration of President Obama was riveting to watch. The shift of feelings became apparent and echoed around the world. Music played a strong supporting role in all the festivities. I am once again proud to be an American!
OUR JANUARY STUDENT RECITAL:
All who were lucky enough to attend were treated to an afternoon of sheer delight. KUDOS TO KUEI-LING POMERLEAU FOR CHAIRING THE JANUARY STUDENT RECITAL. She handled everything very professionally and it was picture perfect. The fact that the piano was at the back of the hall caused some parents to complain about neck ailments. Thanks to all teachers who entered their students, including James Marchand, Steven Shen, Kuei-Ling Pomerleau, and June Choi-Oh. Please keep me posted on your activities via email: zenezest@aol.com or call 415-383-0125. Message submitted by Elenor Barcsak, president.
THE JB PIANO COMPANY is amazing. Glenn Woodruff’s Showroom has a beautiful stage and he is featuring a 9’ Grotrian Concert Grand for the MTAC Discovery Scholarship Benefit Concert on SATURDAY FEBRUARY 7 at 7:30 PM. The gala features our own Gini Wilson. More details are highlighted below. Glenn has a mezzanine with rooms that can be used for meetings or teaching. Please refer anyone who needs a tuning, technician, appraisal, or is looking to purchase a piano to the expert staff at JB Piano.
When First Presbyterian Church cancelled our FEBRUARY 8 Student Recital, Glenn rescued us by agreeing to host the event in his showroom. The recital will be held on FEBRUARY 8 at 1 PM, an hour earlier than the previous posting. The MTAC Marin Branch is once again grateful for Glenn’s generosity.
Looking forward to the fruit of all our teachers’ hard work presented in our Recitals, Concerts, Competitions and Certificate of Merit Program. Please keep me posted on your efforts in the music community.
CERTIFICATE OF MERIT INFO YOU NEED NOW!
Dear Music Teachers,
Here are the minimum requirements for Branch Honors in Marin for 2009 - NOTE THAT THEY INCLUDE HIGHER STANDARDS FOR SIGHT-READING AND THAT PREP LEVEL STUDENTS ARE NO LONGER ELIGIBLE.
HONORS RECITAL DATE: Saturday, April 25, 2009, 1 - 6 pm (several recitals in that time frame)
Sight-Reading: Good or better
Technique: Good or better
Performance: Pass
All Pieces Well-Performed Minimum CM Memory requirement met and Honors Piece memorized
Theory: 80% or better
Honors Piece 4+ or higher
Level 1 and above
Please note: the EVALUATOR chooses the Honors piece; Please do not enter a piece in the online Evaluation Form! If you have already done so, please delete it - any pieces found already entered during the syllabus check will be referred back to the teacher to delete. The only thing you should do is click the box for Honors. Please save your somewhat harried CM Chair extra, unnecessary work!
CARPOOLS/SIBLINGS: It is each teacher's responsibility to follow the instructions (found on the Eval Form and in the Forms and Information part of the state website) and enter carpool information for all sibling and friend groups who wish to have evaluations at approximately the same time. In the past, Marin CM Chairs have made the schedules by hand and so often caught sibling groups that a teacher forgot to request similar times for. THAT WILL NOT HAPPEN THIS YEAR: the schedule will be done by the computer program provided by our state organization - it has many advantages, but one disadvantage is that it is extremely difficult to change once it has been set.
EVALUATION TIME REQUESTS: Again, the computer program will generate the schedule. Students may request a morning or afternoon time but my no longer request an evaluation within a shorter time frame. For tr ue emergencies, teachers should inform the CM Chair ASAP.
DEADLINE to enter Eval Info: Midnight, Sunday, February 15, 2009
DROPS/CHANGES TO PATH B: Remember that changes from Path A to Path B may only be made before the deadline for entering Eval. info. In such a case, sign on to your home page, student list, eval form entry for the student, and click the Path B bullet near the top of the form. Please inform me that you've done so. For a student who wishes to drop, please email me with the student's name - only the branch CM Chair can enter that information in the website. Any student who is still registered as Path A after the deadline and who does not come to the Evaluation will be considered a drop (the teacher can no longer choose Path B for the student). The only exception is a rather complicated make-up procedure, for high school students only, and only for emergencies (absolutely not that the student was not ready).
Please be sure to email me with any questions you may have (after searching for the answer in the policy, syllabus, encyclopedia, etc. ;-) ).helenkonow@aol.com
Cheers,
Helen Konowitz
