Advanced Piano Master Class with Dr. Betty Woo

MTAC Marin invites advanced piano students of branch member teachers to participate in an evening master class with distinguished pianist and educator Dr. Betty Woo.

This master class offers students the opportunity to perform in a focused setting and receive individualized coaching on interpretation, technique, musical expression, and performance.

About Dr. Betty Woo

Dr. Betty Woo is a distinguished pianist and educator who holds a D.M.A. in Performance Practice from Stanford University and an Artist Diploma from the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she received the MacFarren Gold Medal.

She has performed internationally in London, New York, Hong Kong, and throughout California as a soloist, chamber musician, and collaborator with contemporary music ensembles and dance companies.

Dr. Woo has taught at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Holy Names University and currently teaches piano at the University of California, Berkeley. She is also a frequent master class clinician, lecturer, and competition evaluator throughout the Bay Area.

Student Participation

This master class is intended for advanced-level piano students (CM level 8- Advanced) studying with current MTAC Marin Branch member teachers. Selected students will perform one prepared work and receive individual coaching from Dr. Woo in front of the audience. Teachers are encouraged to select students who are comfortable performing in a master class setting and who will benefit from detailed musical and technical feedback.

Application

Students interested in performing must apply through their MTAC Marin teacher. Applications will be available here. Please check back later for the application. Performer space is limited, and submitting an application does not guarantee selection. Additional application information and repertoire requirements will be provided through the registration form.

Observers

MTAC Marin teachers, students, families, and other interested members of our musical community are welcome to attend and observe the master class. Observing a master class can be valuable even for students who are not performing, as Dr. Woo’s coaching and musical insights can be applied to many aspects of piano study and performance.

We look forward to an inspiring evening of music and learning with Dr. Betty Woo.
